These Japanese-Western fusion izakayas seem to be popping up everywhere.
I’m not complaining though – with a sudden influx of fatty, oily beef mixed with rich ingredients like foie gras and/or sea urchin and poached eggs in the scene, there is simply more to enjoy, more to choose from.

Boruto is one such izakaya, which I first visited because of a ridiculously delicious looking truffled sea urchin cold pasta that I saw on Instagram.

Our party of 4 ate our way through round after round of beautiful bite-sized dishes – from stuffed chicken wings to piquant grilled squid, and the lovely truffle angel hair (sans sea urchin because they had no stock that day SAD).
Every dish was good – a complementary blend of interesting flavours and textures.

The dishes were generally innovative and combined interesting ingredients together – I hear you can even ask the chef for special customisations.

Service was if not super prompt, warm and helpful. In total, we spent around S$70 per person, including 1-2 happy hour whisky cocktails each as well.

It was a pleasant experience and I would certainly go back again, and I must try the delectable looking sea urchin dishes this time!
Note (21 Apr 2021): They’ve since changed their head chef, so not sure if the dishes are still the same now!
