Common Man Coffee Roasters | Not Just Another Cafe

Coffee
Rather intricate latte art there

More than a cafe, Common Man Coffee Roasters offers a barista training facility, wholesale services for coffee from sourcing, roasting to equipment, as well as a space for community events.

But the cafe part of it is actually, rather uncommon. Their menu is creative and delightful, and even the usual big breakfast offering is enlivened by fresh homemade baked pork cannellini beans and juicy grilled portobello mushrooms.

Common Man Food
What a lovely brunch spread!

The rich, tasty breakfast can be a little overwhelming for people used to lighter fare, so if you visit in a party of two, I’d recommend you get one of their refreshing salads to share and balance out the intensity of the flavours.

Common Man Full Breakfast 1
The Common Man breakfast. Doesn’t look so common right?

On my two visits, I had their Common Man Full Breakfast (S$26) and two different salads.

The full breakfast came with two free range organic eggs, which had really dark orange yolks that tasted fresh and had an intense flavour and really delicious roasted tomatoes (I liked the big ones better).

Common Man Full Breakfast 2
Yummy yummy breakfast food

The first salad I tried, and which doesn’t seem to be on the menu anymore, was a lovely zesty Crab Salad (S$26), full of sweet sugar snaps, pomegranate seeds and dressed with a yuzu mango mint dressing. Mmm. Tasted like the sea and summer.

Crab Salad
Totally loved this refreshing crab salad

It was garnished with some citrus flavoured crunchy bits, which were also sprinkled over the second salad I tried, the Kale Salad topped with Grilled Chili Chicken.

The tahini lemon honey dressing and shaved parmesean really complemented the raw kale leaves and warm broccoli, and the slight spice in the chicken and sauce gave character to the dish. Yummy.

Kale Salad
I really enjoyed this salad too!

Of course, one cannot forget about the coffee. The cappuccino I had was well made and was a delightful perk-me-up. My brunch companion’s almond latte was a little burnt though.

It’s a nice-enough place to chill out with friends over the weekends, but in my opinion the food outshines the coffee.

Inside the busy cafe

And its always quite crowded, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if you go during peak hours!
