Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen, Jalan Ubi

While I really love to eat, I am aware that there are others who don’t always have the opportunity to do so. And so I would like to share more about this organisation which my company (or rather, our charitable organisation Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation) supports and which I had volunteered once at, Willing Hearts.

The fact that there are underprivileged people in society, is one that most people know, but do not really see. Learning about Willing Hearts, how they provide support services and around 4,000 daily meals to people who are disadvantaged and marginalised, was quite an eye opening experience for me.

After my volunteer experience there involving a few hours of non-stop skinning and chopping of vegetables while standing, I really commend the effort and time that the people who run this 100% volunteer-based non-profit organisation put into it on a regular basis, to help others. Speaking to one of the key volunteers who runs this and hearing the passion in his voice, makes me feel like I too should do more, for those who aren’t as lucky as I am.

So one of the things I would like to do is to spread the word about this soup kitchen and get more people to know about it and possibly, contribute (a little can go a long way) to this cause too!

Do check out their website in the link at the top, where you can sign up to volunteer or donate funds or even food 🙂

There is beauty in simple things... like giving to others!

[Note: I volunteered a few more times over the years and wow, what and experience it was – especially when I had to gut and clean fish, and fry chicken with a giant wok full of boiling oil. It was challenging but also really fulfilling, especially when you feel like you played a small part in contributing to people getting fed!]
