I had the pleasure of visiting a nice restaurant in New York when I was there last December for a university course. A friend studying there found the website and decided it looked like a nice place. I agreed, and off we went to try it!

Oh and was it goood. If you ever go to New York, please do try it.The prices are reasonable, the service is great, and the food is fabulous. I don’t usually rave over restaurants, but I was happy. It may not be one of those famous Michelin starred restaurants, but it’s unassuming, lively, and downright yums.

For starters, we had the Octopus Salad with Chorizo Sausage (around USD$15 I think, but they don’t seem to have it on their menu anymore!
It was the BEST salad I have ever had. The pieces of octopus were nicely pan-fried (I think) such that it had a slightly charred and tasty exterior, and was nice and chewy without being too rubbery. The potatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, onions and salad vegetable (looks like fennel, but I’m actually not too sure what it is) all tasted fresh, and they had absorbed the “jus” from the chorizo sausage, making them packed-full with taste.

And the Hangar Steak (USD$27). Totally awesome. Medium rare, like all steaks should be done, with blood and juice oozing out when cut. Warm and tender inside, unlike those terrible steak in most places where the centre is still somewhat chilled and overly-chewy. Not this, this was gorgeous. Succulent. Juicy. And with the bearnaise sause… absolute heaven.

Even the wine was good – a recommendation by our patient and cheerful waitress who listed her suggestions and helpful advice, always with a smile.

A nice touch to the end of the meal was also the complimentary homemade caramel sweets presented to us with our bill. I have no complaints whatsoever about this place (except, it’s a little too far away from here, hah)… best ever!
